December 2011 Newsletter

Hi Everybody!
 Hi Everybody!

Hope all is well with all of you.  I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you all about the last year with Wet Nose Rescue.

Last year about this time we had our Grand Opening for our Adoption Center, what an absolutely exciting thing this was. I'm sure many of you can remember their adoptions taking place in a garage or in a back yard so this was truly a big step. Since that time we have successfully had many adoptions in our new location and would like to take this opportunity to invite all of you out for a Holiday Open House. We will have the Open House on December 10, 2011. The time will be: 12-4 PM and the address is: 13440 Damar Drive, Unit V20, Philadelphia, PA 19116. We will have lots of things available to you including: Pictures with Santa, Lots of wonderful dog related items for purchase for both the 2 and 4 legged in your family, an amazing L'Oreal Gift basket will be raffled along with a few Doggie gift baskets. We will have refreshments available for you and your pups and more than anything we would love to see all of you. We look back and have so very much to be thankful for and most of all it is all of you, who were willing to open your hearts to a helpless soul who probably would not be here today.

As we prepare for the upcoming Holiday Season please keep in mind the many dangers this time of year can bring to our pets. Please do not opt to share your holiday meal with your puppy/dog, turkey is much too rich, along with many of the other goodies we all indulge in. Please be sure to discard your turkey carcass in a safe way so that your very clever pup cannot find it and help himself, turkey bones are highly dangerous when ingested. As we then move onto the next holiday, please remember Holly Berries and Mistletoe are very toxic and can kill, Poinsettias can also make your dog quite sick, so if you decorate with these items please be sure to keep them at a safe distance from your pups. When the weather starts to get colder and we start to see the white stuff on the ground, please take a few minutes after your pups are outside to check their paw pads for ice, and too make sure there is not ice melt or salt on their feet, they will inevitably lick their paws and ingest whatever it is. Keep an eye on your older guys as they will feel the cold more as they get older and may not be able to tolerate it for the length of time they used to.

I know some of you expressed interest when you adopted to become a part of Wet Nose to either volunteer or foster please be sure to drop us a line, we have an amazing group of people and truthfully the more the merrier! Jackie Smith is our Foster Family Coordinator and would love to hear from anyone interested in giving fostering a shot, it is our lifeline as none of our dogs/puppies are ever kenneled. As with any non-profit we are constantly trying to raise money, the money that is collected at an adoption predominantly covers the cost of vaccinations, deworming and transportation, however there are frequently many other costs involved in saving the pups. In the course of a year the bulk of the money that is spent goes to veterinary costs. We will for the first time in our history raise our adoption rates in 2012, we are only going to increase it by 25.00 as we still believe very strongly that it should be about the dog, not the money, but unfortanately the cost of the vaccinations and as we all know fuel charges have had many increases. We are trying many things to raise money so I wanted to pass this information on to all of you. Please feel free to share this with as many people as you can:

Entertainment Books for 2012 are available for $30.00, if you would like one for a gift or for yourself they will be available through Dec. 15th.

As always if you just want to help and make a monetary donation we certainly are ever so thankful, we are 100% volunteer based, so there are no salaries, just a bunch of dedicated people trying to make a difference. All monies that are raised are used to help save as many unwanted dogs and puppies as we can. The dogs and puppies we work with everyday never did anything wrong other than being born, born into a situation they did not deserve. We have the ability to make a difference, of which all of you have already done by bringing a very special dog/pup into your life. If you would like to make a donation to help save others please go directly to our website: www.wetnoserescue.org and go to the paypal button, please remember we are a 501c3 so your donations will be recognized as a charitable donation.

Please continue sending us pictures of your pups, it truly does make our days! I hope all of you have a wonderful Holiday and I hope to see as many of you as possible! Always remember we may not be able to change the world, but each and everyone of you have changed the world for one! (some of you more than one!!!)
Hug Your Fur,
Kim/Wet Nose Rescue
